DIY | Stenciling & Staining

Custom DIY Stenciling & Staining furniture!

Stencil and furniture Stain!
Here are some alarming before and afters ...

I started with a headboard is in serious bad shape.
Glue, dents, dings, water stains, sticker goo ... you name it ...
This is disgusting!
Redeeming feature is that they have REAL wood ...
I know we can work with it!

The division is in the shape comparison. Thankfully they are cheaper at yard sales.
I built tanks from scrap wood from the garage ... and spare cake.
I spent a lot of time sanding it down.

I'm too cheap to buy a stencil $ 40-50 for a project I'll use one ...
so I improve and make my own.
I inserted my thick plastic right into my cameo silhouette.
Once I adjusted quatrefoil background I want ... I have guests "cut" it.
This plastic is too thick to have cameo cut it out though.

It was noted the line though ... and that's what I want!

Then I spent hours cutting it out.
Yes, it's slow ... but my son and I heard some of the Hobbit on CD,
so that is fun.

I always put an x on the inside, where I'm cut ... sometimes,
you (okay, me) is very close to something and you take
and began to cut the wrong parts!

Finally finished!

When there is no spare time ... I measure the surface of everything to
stencil and mark the small x in the center.
Then I lined up my stencil and start in the middle.

Here are the secrets ... repositionable spray.
Keep it in place while you work!

I use a slightly off-white paint Paris that I
sat around and a stipple brush

One you do stenciling ... you wait until the paint is completely
dried before pressing it down again and paint the next section.

But it worked pretty well, because I had a lot of surface
needs to be painted ... so I just walked around until all central
is painted and then be the first ready for part 2, and so on.

At first I was not going to either side of the bed stencil ...
Besides, I have run out of white paint! But it needs it, so I got out some
acrylic paint and did it.

Not a perfect paint match, but close enough.
Well, they still looked boring to me, so I edged them in aqua blue.
and let dry overnight.

Oh, ya, painted inside drawers too!
And used up all my aqua paint as well!

The next day is the fun!
Dye!
I used black walnut stain. I want it up ... so I painted it on with a
Paintbrush and then rub off the excess with a rag old.
Repeated on all surfaces. I love how it makes the stencil turned out!

Give it a rich look!

When dye was made ... the buttons and knobs need to be replaced.
I had a ton of random buttons I got at a yard sale ... any match.
and they were booked.

I just sprayed all brass and copper they fit perfectly now!

See how they work perfectly with the color of wood?

And here is a picture of the product series has been completed!

Perfect fit little bedroom set!

I'm so excited to finally reveal our headboard. Serious. We have been searching for more than a bed head this year. I will wipe Craigslist on a daily basis almost-we will stop at garage sales, antique shops, and everything in between. He woodsy want two things I like to call "matchy matchy-" bedside where as I only want two-night stand in general. On Easter weekend, we met a friend of a friend whose mother is a stock broker. She gave us some of her mother and I had planned to call her that Monday morning, that is until I read through the interior section of Craigslist and found this two beauties. I frantically sent several text messages to his woodsy after many phone calls to the person who sold beautiful.

After communicating over the day that all of us were set to go later in the evening after work to catch the night stand. The hour drive each way well worth it and luckily we were able to put our Prius instead of gas gusling SUV! Look how beautiful they fit in the back of our car?

Of course, we came home late that night, but we were both wires on teh great deal, we have scored! Two matching bedside personality with $ 70! Of course the gentleman was asking for $ 100 but I was able to talk to him down a little (30% a little)! Both of us were curious to see the head of the bed next to our bed so we brought it to our room and put it in front of the old messy black lacquer night we stood. Does it look goregous!?! We are very giddy from our great Craigslist find!

Unfortunately, like most projects, the head of the bed sat in our garage for a few weeks until we had enough time to devote to them. Plus it gave us time to decide what we want to do for the headboard. I love them the way they were; However, I know with our cupboard became a white ball that I wanted to have a headboard different colors. I've thought about painting it yellow, but since they will stand right next to the yellow carpet ... gold was out of the question too!

Instead, we went with Tide Tropical Behr body.

First, was the first thing we need to remove the button before we can draw.

The way the buttons are installed half way ass install button. They really twisted the knobs on with a screw! needless to say only some of them easily twisted off.

He had to hold back woodsy to a few of the drawer where the screw was trapped in front but the knob came off.

Then, using a sharpie, he woodsy numbering each drawer before painting * just in case they have been moved out of place.

See the number on the back of a drawer?

Now, the buttons off, we can start to rub!

He woodsy orbital sander runs on the front of the drawer bedside cabinet just to rough up the surface before painting.

And then the picture begins. We decided to keep the top of the headboard and white, we like the idea of two-toned headboard.

Public building drawers bedside cabinet in the rear floor using a thin piece of wood to keep the green part off the ground.

Then he decided he wanted woodsy complex started painting all the finer details at the bottom. I'm not happy. This is not what I envisioned. Seriously, we got in a very lively debate about this. It's not fun and can end our marriage. Finally I ended up painting on the white painted line perfectly with the tropical tide again and did a painting on technical wipe with a white collar that Behr carries. This has no effect because 1. He woodsy will not talk to me for days 2. I was so angry and tired to set up the tripod. This is when I decided that I hate how "green Smurfy" Our bedhead look. Finally, it is because both have an eggshell finish, and I just was not feeling neighbors. Oh, and perhaps because he decided to paint the tops woodsy of a completely white. So, once we both can achieve calmness (days later) I went to the store and buy Behr and his white neck tops woodsy repainted. I also completed the detailed work on the bottom of the stand at night.

A week after my glass buttons until he woodsy setting them on the drawer fronts. Drill a hole where the hole is half ass out.

Then he started working woodsy glass knob on the front drawer.

Then we began to grieve with paint. We simply draw on some brown paint with a paint brush, and then blotted it off with a wet rag.

I love how the spin is complete.

Then I ran a little sand paper rough on the edges to give them a little more.

And finally they are ready to move into our room; However, that means cleaning our old bed head and started filling up the new bed! At this point, it was close to 11:00 at night, but the bed was made and in our room, next to our bed!

So here we go ... what's her bedside Our new how, way better than what we used to have!

I could not be happier with how the top edge of the bed turned out.

Looking at those sexy legs!

You can tell where the next holiday we are planning?

Urban Outfitters Nightstands (Cheap Nightstands Reviews)

Urban Outfitters Inspired Nightstands

My brother has been passed down to his bedside with my old Ikea (thanks to Timmy!). What I like is that it's Ikea cheap convenient way to equip our homes with furniture and Flugalhorn GORG named. What I do not like about Ikea is that it is a cheap way to make our house look like shabby amusement of their stores, each apartment similar to the rest.
I believe a house should be filled with history and character. Although we can not (yet) stick of furniture in a time machine to make it history, we have the ability to give the characters more parts with a little paint and imagination. Materials and instructions after the jump ...

I was inspired by this ($ 149!) From Urban Outfitters Top of bed, it motivates me obsession with mint, so I decided to make them more with leftover paint from my desk I again .

Materials needed:
  • Ammonia and water
  • tissue
  • Sanding block
  • Wood accessories (optional)
  • spray primer
  • FLAT paint (important !!)
  • clear spray enamel ball
  • Paint brush
  • Sponge brush
  • Mask
  • Cane fabric (with mine over at Amazon)
  • Scissors
  • hot glue gun sticks and glue
1. Clean the pieces. Since my table was quite dirty I brush it down with a little ammonia water, then dry with a paper towel.

2. Sand. Because most of Ikea pieces made from wood, I used a sanding block sand it lightly.

3. Fill the holes if necessary. Fill in all holes and gauges with wooden parts. Let dry according to the instructions on the packaging, at least 20 minutes. Sand any side too lightly with fine sandpaper.

4. Prime. I use spray primer from its much faster than the old fashioned kind, but two will work. I just made a jacket, though you can be safe with two. Let dry and sand out any imperfections.

5. Son. FLAT PAINT used to obtain high adhesion. Paint scratch layer between two layers.

6. Gloss. Gloss Enamel spray paint clear turn your piece from the apartment to the ball. Do as many as you have light jacket patience, at least 4 or 5. Let the pieces dry for 10 minutes between coats. NOT sand between coats ball.

7. Cain webbing. When the piece has dried overnight, cutting a cloth cain to the size of the rectangle on the door. Working quickly, dots of hot glue on the back of ever-inch cane to make sure it is covered. Cane flipped over and hit insert. Let set for 5 minutes.

8. Nobs. Put on new Nobs. You're done!
